Thursday, 29 August, was a bright, sunny, warm day in GAP. At lunch on my walk back to work from home, I noticed a "tourist" taking a photo of this tree. That surprised me because as many times as I have walked past this tree--going back and forth from home to work, work to home, three times daily--although I have admired it, I never thought of photographing it from this perspective--looking upwards at the sky. I ruminated about the idea all through the afternoon and the next morning on my way in to work I decided to pull out iPhone and look at the tree from the tourist's perspective.
The early morning sky was a softer blue than it was the previous day at noon, but the red leaves were still stunning. Playful and bright at the tips but brooding and dark underneath, it was a metaphor for early risers like myself eager to catch the morning while others preferred to remain engaged in their dreams and slumber.
With a burst of light from the rising sun, the color of the leaves intensified. I could have waited in the same spot longer taking more photos and watching this "morning call" advance, but I moved along to my appointment with the hot-pool.
Thanks to a random tourist I will not pass this way again without glancing upwards.
