My recent visit to New Orleans, Louisiana marked my first time in that city.
The people there were very hospitable and I enjoyed talking with them.
It was very hot and humid, but I rather enjoyed it, having experienced
several weeks of cold, rainy weather back home in GAP. Almost every
afternoon the city was hit with a thunder storm, and you know how
I love thunder storms! They were real douzies, too.
I learned that the part of town with all the hotels and stores and such
didn't receive extensive damage like the rest of the area, so there was
no evidence of that around. Everything looked very nice and clean;
very Southern with balconies sporting hanging ferns and ceiling fans.
Tried bread pudding for the first time and it was delicious.
Yes, I visited Bourbon street, but wasn't impressed. If anything, I found
it pathetique. Not my type of place.
They obviously get deeply into Mardi Gras and I saw many beautifully decorated masks on display in store windows. I can certainly appreciate the beautiful artwork involved in designing thee masks.
It would be lovely to put one on (oh, how difficult selecting the right one!), dress in splendid costume and wander about the grand old town in the cool of the evening while the rest of the people did the same. Music playing in courtyards and parks, banquets of good food to sample and other fascinating characters to meet! ~M
