Changeable weather

The news has been full of stories about winter storms hitting Europe and how it has affected holiday travel. GAP had its own winter storm about a week ago now. Real blizzard conditions. Hannah was traveling from LA to London right around that time and there was concern at the Greene's chalet about possible delays/cancellations. JC was grateful that Hannah's flight didn't entail a stopover through Chicago, having memories of trauma in such a situation a few years back, so the concern level wasn't as high as it might have been. However, Hannah did have to catch a train around 7:00 p.m. after deplaning in Munich and it's a 2 hr trip from the airport to GAP. JC had visions of HM traveling in fur coat and flip flops.....who knew?

Turned out that HM's flight was delayed a mere half hour in London but thereafter travel was uneventful. Very empowering to arrive in Munich Hauptbahnhof after 8 years absence and know exactly where you are and how to get to where you need to be! While chalet residents waited silently in the dark evening hours for the phone to ring announcing HM's arrival at the GAP station, HM was expertly--and cheerfully, as always--traveling along.

About 8:30-ish JC got the bright idea to check to see when/whether HM's flight arrived. Then, around 9:45-ish CG thought he might sit at the Burger King where he could wait and watch the timetables for arrivals from MUC. HM arrived at approx 10:00 pm. All was well.

As to changeable weather, well, let's just point out that one week after HM's arrival in the midst of a winter storm we are now looking at temps in the high 30s and piles of snow melting down-down-down to mush. Good news is that we managed to visit the GAP Christmas market right after the temps started to improve but prior to snowmelt and HM worked in a successful run on the slopes where she starred as the only female snowboarder.

Word is that this weekend we can expect a turn around. Maybe so. It's all the same to me now that everyone is safe and sound in our mountain chalet. ~M
